Whippet Harness | Lurcher | Greyhound | Running | No Escape

PRODUCT DETAILS

Multi-purpose dog harness for general walking, running, Canicross, Hiking and Climbing - 3 Strap escape proof design

A versatile and very lightweight Whippet harness which is great for sighthounds and those with larger/wider chests and longer bodies, including breeds like the greyhound, lurcher, pointer etc. It is also a great option for many other dog breeds who often escape from other standard harnesses - the 3-strap design offers a no escape option. Please check out the images in the gallery from our customers. This really is suitable for so many dogs.

This can be used as a stable, low profile harness for everyday walking, as well as an aid for running, hiking, trekking and climbing. This is one of our top three best-selling harnesses for a reason - it ticks all the boxes! See video, sizing and FAQ tabs above for more information.

It is a popular option for owners who have a dog with a longer body and deep chest, which includes gun dogs, Sighthounds and is very popular as a Whippet harness and Lurcher harness or for breeds like Greyhounds, Pointers and Saluki dogs. Due to the design and configuration of the three straps it is also ideal for running, hiking, climbing and Canicross and the strap placement make it a great option as an escape proof harness.

Another bonus with this no escape harness, is the fact that it offers freedom of movement around the shoulders and other parts of the torso. There is also a front clip so it can be used with a double ended lead as a no pull option.

As it is lightweight and very low profile, this means that for dogs that go off lead and/or like to roam it is far less likely for the harness to get caught on branches, on bushes or any protruding item - making it a really safe option.

It is designed to fit the dog in three important areas and provides a comfortable and very secure fit all round. As it has a third rear strap, this makes it almost impossible for any dog to back out of it and this means it is sound no escape dog harness option. It can also be used to go over or under coats and jumpers etc - especially those with a harness hole.

The main features of this harness are:

 • Great as a Whippet harness, Lurcher harness and for Greyhounds
 • Also suitable for many other breeds (see sizing tab above)
 • Three strap design offers no escape properties
 • Gives main shoulder areas freedom of movement
 • Includes a large, comfortable top plate on the back
 • Great choice for jogging or running
 • Low profile so has anti-snag properties for off lead
 • Extremely lightweight
 • Has both a top and front lead ring
 • Adjustment points in 6 places
 • Ideal for hiking, trekking and hill climbing
 • Spreads the load and pulling forces
 • Breathable, comfortable fabric and quick drying
 • Ideal for dogs with longer bodies and deep chests
 • Offers padding around the chest
 • Comes with a handle
 • Available in red, orange and green

This harness is also a favourite with runners and active people who require a fully supportive harness for running, climbing, long walks, trekking and boating. It is very popular among owners of Whippets and can be used as a Greyhound harness or for Lurchers, Pointers and Sighthounds. It is very popular for these breeds because the harness gives them freedom of movement around the shoulders as they run. However, this has also been a popular choice for many dog breeds - even for Dachshunds and Basset hounds.

See the images in our customer gallery to give you an idea of the types of dog this harness fits - it is so versatile!

This escape proof dog harness has a lot of adjustments in the neck, chest/rib cage and rear areas so even if you think that your dog is an odd size, please use the chest measurements above as the guide. A harness that fits around the chest should offer enough adjustment to fit around the neck and rear.

Please note: It is VERY important that you measure your dog's chest/belly area before you order a dog harness. Please do not guess the size as this can result in a return where you will pay for the return postage.

FAQ

Why is it so good for breeds like whippets or greyhounds?

It is ergonomically suited to breeds with long bodies and bigger chests, but there is so much adjustment on the straps that it can be tailored for so many dogs of all shapes and sizes. This has been a very popular harness for Whippet and Greyhound owners because it offers security along the length of the torso and also offers a no escape three strap. It also gives the dog a lot of freedom around the shoulders so very active dogs have little or no restrictions around key muscles and joints when running and walking.

Will it fit all dog breeds?

This dog harness should fit all but the very smallest of dogs. If you have a Chihuahua or a small terrier there are better options. It is very popular as a Whippet harness and Lurcher harness and is also great for a greyhound as it offers a secure three strap fit to cover the long body and deep chest. However, it will fit many other dog breeds. We've even had positive comments from owners of Basset hounds and Dachshunds.

Is it easy to take on and off?

Yes. This is easy to put on and take off. A series of quick release buckles make this process simple.

How heavy is this harness?

It is very lightweight but offers a great deal of support.

Do I use the top or front lead clip when running?

It is worth testing this out to see which one works for you. If you have the room for your dog to run by your side then you can attach a lead to the front as well as to the top. However, if your dog moves ahead of you a front clip could mean that the lead gets in the way. If this is the case it is better to attach the lead to the clip around your dog's back/shoulders.

Why is this well suited to deep chested dogs?

Three straps gives you the option to open up and reduce them to fit around the front part of the chest, behind the front legs and also to the rear of the rib cage. This allows for a more uniform fit for many breeds so it makes a great Whippet harness or one to fit a Greyhounds, Pointer and Lurcher for example.

Why is it a good option for dogs with longer bodies?

The three straps means that you have a stable platform and security along a slightly longer body area. The third strap can reach towards the mid to lower back and for many breeds this gives added support and balance. It also equals out the pulling forces. For example, as a Lurcher harness it provides strong clips and materials to support dynamic running and tumbling.

Could this also be used as a Greyhound harness

Yes, this type of harness seems to be popular with dogs of this shape, because the rear strap extends further down the body and offers a secure fit. With three straps, you can also adjust it for a more custom fit.

Which size do I need?

Please refer to the size guide tab and use that as a reference. Please do not guess the size as harness manufacturers have very different sizing.

What are the available colours?

This version comes in Red, Orange and green

How strong are the lead clips?

They are very strong and made from a light alloy metal.

What type of running lead should I use?

There are various leads available, but we would recommend that you use a good quality one. This is especially true if you are using this as a running dog harness. The options will include a good bungee lead that will stay fitted around you and will have some elastic properties to cushion the forces. Please see our bungee / running leads on this website. You can also opt for a standard lead if you don't want a bungee/elastic option.

Can I use a double ended training lead with this harness?

Yes. You simply clip one end of the double ended training lead to the front and the other end to the top clip. This will then give you an option to use it as a no pull harness. You only need to apply gentle forces to the front when walking your dog.

Where are the items shipped from and how long will they take to get to me?

All of our dog harnesses are stored and shipped from the UK. All UK deliveries should take 2-3 working days to get to you but please allow up to 4 working days during busy periods.

Fantastic Value Harnesses

We have two of these harnesses now (L for our greyhound and M for our whippet cross) and we love them. They are superb value when compared to other very similar brands, really easy to put on/take off and nice and lightweight yet supportive for the hounds. Would highly recommend these, particularly great for sighthounds with the third strap to avoid escapees!

BEST HARNESS EVER

We bought this harness for our saluki/greyhound cross who has been difficult to size with other harnesses. This fits her perfectly. The things I love about this are the adjustable straps which allows for the perfect fit. Also, our dog loves to run in the bushes and undergrowth and this harness fits snugly with no sticking out bits that could get caught up in the woods. If you're thinking of buying one, go for it. And they come in such great colours.

So pleased to hear that Carol. They are one of our best sellers and it took a long time (and trial and error) to find the right harness at the right price. It seems that owners love the adjustability of it and how it can be a real custom fit. If you have an image or video you'd like to share with us any time, we'd love to feature it on our social channels. Once again, thanks for the great feedback!

Running Cockapoo

Mabel is just over a year old. She’s a cockerpoo who has had so many harnesses but has wriggled out backwards so many times.into the road from the van and on the loch sides. I’ve never felt so frightened but this 3 belt harness is living up to a non- backward wriggle harness . Because the cockerpoo has a deep chest and tiny waist it is perfect . I feel so safe with her in the harness . We can attach a full running harness at front and top . It’s strong but soft and good metal attachments. She also doesn’t mind the harness going over her head and doesn’t pull at all .
Certainly a peace of mind harness.

We are delighted that you and Mabel like it...and that she is safe when she is wearing it. Thank you so much for your feedback - as you say, 'peace of mind' is so important when it comes to our lovely doggies.
