Please note: It is VERY important that you measure your dog's chest/belly area before you order a Truelove dog harness. Please see the size guide tab for more information. As a general rule, you just need to measure around the girth of your dog's chest/belly just behind the front legs.

A note about size

The TrueLove dog harness is accurate to size and have a greater level of adjustment than many people realise.

Please do not guess the size of the harness without measuring your dog. Not all dog harnesses are the same! If you need help at anytime, please give us a call or send an email to info@wigglesandwags.co.uk

Please use the breed/size chart below as A GUIDE ONLY. Please click on the orange size guide tab above this description to see the size ranges for each harness. It is important that you measure your dog before ordering. Please do not guess as all dog harnesses are not the same!

FAQ

Why does this True love dog harness have a front fastening or front fix harness clip?

A dog harness with a front clip and top clip gives you the option of attaching one end of a double ended lead to the front clip and it is used to steer the dog. When used with a double ended dog lead it provides a counteraction for the opposition reflex of your dog. This basically means that it helps to deviate against the natural instinct of your dog pulling you straight forward.

A front fastening clip located at the front of the Truelove dog harness can be used on its own. However, if your dog pulls a lot, we'd recommend that this clip is used in conjunction with the top clip. The front clip essentially provides steering and the top clip acts as brake when a double ended lead is attached. Therefore, a double ended lead attached to both the front and top clips provides full control.

So if your dog pulls excessively, a lead attached to a front fixing clip will force the dog to pivot around their chest towards you. This is not a harsh action - it is very subtle. It just provides you with more control as the steering action of a front clip gently moves your dog from side to side.

Sometimes referred to as a front leading dog harness, the front clip can be used in isolation or in conjunction with the top clip located.

What are the lead clips made out of?

The top and front clips are made of a super-strong zinc alloy metal which is also rust-resistant.

What does the top clip lead attachment point do?

The top lead attachment point on the True Love harness is classed as a standard fixing point and can be seen on most harnesses today. It can be used on its own with a standard lead if your dog is not a big puller.

In fact, this is the most common location for most standard harness clips.

The top ring on this Truelove dog harnesss is located around the middle of the dog's upper back and shoulder area. It is a nice central location and as the harness is padded, any pulling forces around the lower chest will be dampened. Any braking forces are also decreased by clever elastic shock absorbers built into the strong straps.

Buy this True love dog harness if you want a reflective, comfortable and padded harness. It could also offer you a nice upgrade to your existing harness.

Can I use the front and top clip at the same time?

Using a dog harness with front clip and top clips together will offer braking (top clip) and a subtle steering motion (front clip). You can use a double ended training lead or two standard leads for this purpose. If you want to stop your dog pulling, it is our recommendation that you use both clips and a double-ended lead.

So how does the no pull action work on a dog harness?

If your dog does pull, this type of True love dog harness is designed to help stop your dog pulling. It uses a combination of a well thought out design and well-positioned lead clips.

The 'no pull' will usually come from the steering force generated from the front clip. However, it is worth mentioning that many owners see much less pulling even if they use the top clip only.

Tests have shown that if a double-ended lead is attached to the top and front clips they apply simultaneous braking and steering. We think this is the best option and will give you full control.

If your dog pulls forward very quickly or too aggressively it will automatically be steered to one side in a very subtle way. This is because the lead end attached to the front clip will become tighter.

Please note that some customers may choose to use the dog harness with front clip only on the True Love harness to walk their dog and this is absolutely fine. Just remember that this method will give you little or no braking action. However, it can work well with dogs that respond instantly to any tightening of the lead or commands from their handler. If your dog pulls a lot then you should benefit from using both harness clips.

A customer kindly sent in this image of their dog 'Ella' wearing a pink Truelove dog harness with a matching double ended lead. You'll see that they have opted for a double-ended lead attached to both harness clips. You can see that one end is attached to the top clip and the other end is attached to the front clip.

Over time, this should tell your dog that if it pulls too quickly or too hard it will get thrown off slightly to one side. This subtle action will not hurt your dog or spoil the walk in any way. In fact, less pulling will benefit both dog and owner. We've had feedback from so many customers who are now enjoying calmer walks with less stress on the dog and owner's joints!

What are the colour choices?

This Truelove dog harness is available in black, yellow, green, grey, orange, red and the brand new colours of pink, purple, brown and blue. Please select the colour of your choice from the drop-down options and also see the Sizes tab to choose the best harness for your dog.

Each True Love harness is fitted with reflective strips on the main body and straps. This is so your dog can be seen easily when car headlights or street lights are directed towards it.

Which is the best double ended lead to buy?

Remember, we also have matching double ended leads for owners that want to attach a clip to both a front and top clip.

You are better to choose a lead that matches the size of your harness. This is because the larger leads are slightly wider than the smaller leads and will have bigger fastening clips - a large lead does not look quite right on a small harness.

So if you buy a xs or small harness, it is better to buy a small lead to match it. If you order a medium harness, you can also purchase a medium double ended lead. And as you have probably guessed a large lead would look better on a large or x large harness.

The only difference in the lead material sizes is in the width. All double ended leads are 2.0 metres long, which is a standard length and the widths are: Small = 1.5 cm, medium = 2.0 cm and large = 2.5 cm.

Will it fit all dog breeds?

We have fitted these harnesses at dog shows to Chihuahuas and Leonbergers so in our experience they are suitable for all sizes and breeds of dog. However, please do check minimum and maximum sizes in the size tab before ordering. In some cases it can be better to go for a larger size harness, especially if your dog has a very deep chest.

Some dogs like Daschunds and Corgis can have deep chests in relation to the rest of their front torso. In this case it could be better to go up a size so the straps clear the front legs with room to spare. Please get in touch if you have any queries about sizing.

How do I fit the harness?

With this style of True Love harness, you simply place it over your dog's head, so the logo is on top near your dog's shoulders. You can then clip it around the belly and then adjust to fit.

So can this be used as a normal, every day harness?

Yes. We sell a lot of harnesses to customers who just want to use it as a standard harness and to attach a lead to the top fixing only. As it is padded, robust and well made it is often a replacement for another harness or one that has not held up too well.

The harnesses are heavy-duty, but they are lightweight and should not overwhelm or irritate your dog in any way. They fit the dog's chest and torso very well so they are comfortable for the owner and hopefully the dog too! We get a lot of people who buy the dog harnesses even if their dogs don't pull.

We ask customers for feedback and they seem to be impressed with the quality of the product and also how well it fits their dog. Some harnesses on the market can cut into the dog's body or can be too high around the dog's neck.

There are also some harnesses that fit so badly that the dog can wriggle out of them. This model harness is well proportioned, has elastic shock absorbers does not fit too high on the dog's chest. They are a very popular choice.

What is a front lead dog harness?

A front lead harness is basically the same as a dog harness with front clip. It is a walking device and aid that has a lead clip on the front portion of the harness. This is usually located around the central part dog's chest area when the harness is applied and fitted.

By attaching a lead to the front clip, you can steer the dog and control it away from the pull reflex. This pull reflex is often seen with traditional harnesses, which have just one lead clip on top around the dog's shoulders.

Why do you think this is the best dog harness to stop pulling?

There are many dog harnesses designed to reduce or stop pulling. Of course, the best harness is one that has a positive experience for both dog and owner. The options include strap only and padded torso harnesses and both will usually include a front lead clip on the front. We chose to sell a True Love harness with a padded torso which has strong clips, good straps and is full adjustable. We think this beats the thinner strap harnesses and our customers seem to agree.

How are they made and will they last?

The great design and quality manufacturing by Truelove runs through every product. This includes the materials, strong stitching, padding and ergonomics of the finished product. The polyester harness is very strong, yet light and the design means that the pulling forces are equally distributed. It also has strong elastic materials built-in to help cushion the pulling forces.

This slight expansion mechanism is also useful after very active sessions with your dog. The harness can expand slightly during heavy breathing and movement for a comfortable fit..

The harness is also designed in such a way that it becomes almost impossible for a dog to back out of it. Don't be afraid to make the harness strap quite tight around the belly. As long as you can insert a finger under the strap on both sides and feel a good pinch, it should be comfortable.

When we demonstrate this type of Truelove dog harness people comment that they do not feel the same harsh jarring of bones and muscles. Over time this can substantially reduce tiredness or any aches and pains the owner experiences when walking their dog.

And they are certainly built to last.

So is this harness classed as a no pull dog type?

The classification for a no-pull harness is quite broad. There are several types designed to reduce or eliminate pulling. These consist of harnesses that fit around the nose and chest or those that fit around the chest and belly.

Both use the same principle of applying braking and steering forces to throw your dog off from pulling forwards. This harness from Truelove offers a design that fits around the front torso and includes a front and top fastening point. So, this harness can also be classed as a no-pull harness.

Why Does My Dog Pull?

There are usually two main reasons for this. Firstly, there are so many wonderful smells outside and your dog just can't wait to get amongst them. Secondly, a dog's natural reaction to being pulled back is to try and create some sort of equilibrium.

This means that they want to create an opposite force to you pulling back on the lead and this means they pull too!

So why does a harness + double-ended lead make such a difference?

When a lead is attached to the top ring on a harness, that is your brake. This is the way most people attach leads to standard harnesses and if your dog does not pull then this way is just fine.

However, if your dog pulls a lot, then a dog harness with an additional front clip fastening should work well. If your dog pulls and the lead goes tight your dog will be pulled gently to the side.

You can reinforce any good behaviour with a positive keyword - this could be something like "nicely."

You could repeat this word again and again during walks so your dog understands that it is only said when it behaves and walks nicely. You can then give your dog a treat as it walks "nicely" and then reinforce the good behaviour with a nice treat. As dog owners ourselves, we use the command "close" which means that the dog must slow down and move closer to our side.

When it does so for a period of a few seconds we reward the dog. You can use the "close" command and get your dog to remain close to you for 3, 5 and 10 seconds, so you increase each time. Over time your dog should learn that "close" means a reward.

Of course, it is up to you how you want to use the harness and lead. We have found that a combination of these products and the methods listed here work extremely well in the majority of cases.

What are the materials used in this dog harness?

This True Love harness is made from polyester. They are padded, reflective dog harnesses, which are light but made from very strong, durable fabric with a patented 3M scotchlite reflective material.

They are therefore designed to show up in car headlights and under street lights, helping you and your dog to be seen on those darker nights. They are reflective dog harnesses of the highest quality.

The inside is made from a breathable mesh fabric lining and the harness is padded for extra comfort. The harness is well-weighted and padded and well proportioned which ensures easy walking and control at all times. It also has reinforced elastic tension points to cushion pressure and forward, back and side pulling forces.

What type of adjustment points does it have?

This style of Truelove dog harness has four main adjustment points. You have two straps to resize the neck area and two to resize the belly/chest area. This means that you can adjust each strap through a buckle on the left and right parts of the neck and belly area. This ensures a good fit all around.

What type of lead/leash fastenings does it have?

The easy walk dog harnesses have two metal attachment points. The first is a strong zinc alloy D ring for fastening a lead to the most popular area close to the handle shown below. This is located in the centre and the top of the dog's shoulders.

The second O-ring attachment is located on the dog's chest for attaching a lead at the front. This attachment allows for a lead to gently steer the dog from left to right and this means that any aggressive forward pulling is vastly reduce. Both options make it a great choice as a traditional harness or a no pull dog harness.

You can choose to use one or both fastenings to suit your needs and situation.

Can this dog harness be used in the car?

Yes. The handle on this True Love harness can have many uses and can come in useful if you also want to use it as a dog car harness and thus provides extra security in the car. Just thread the car seat belt through the handle for extra peace of mind.

The handle is also handy if you find yourself in a confrontational situation with another dog and need to pull your dog away from any potential threat. It can also be used to aid climbing if you climb hills or mountains with your dog. It is also a great choice if you go swimming or boating with your dog. The handle means you can use it to pull the dog out of the water easily.

Where are the items shipped from and how long will they take to get to me?

All of our heavy-duty padded dog harnesses are stored and shipped from the UK. All UK deliveries should take 2-3 days but please allow up to 4 working days during busy periods. We now also have a 24 hour delivery option.

How do I ensure that I get the correct size?

Just measure your dog around the girth of the chest. This is the circumference around the widest part of the chest and just behind the front legs. Please see the illustration of the dog in the Sizes tab above. You can then watch the video on this page for more information.

There is quite a bit of room for adjustments for the neck and chest straps on a Truelove dog harness and this is to ensure a good fit. Just choose a harness that falls within one of the chest sizes in the table above and then select it from the drop-down menu.

Excellent

My dog is awkwardly sized being a mixed breed (shih tzu x Chihuahua). I ordered a M as he was 42 in the chest, and it was advised to go up if near the edge. I was actually expecting to send this back, because we've never had any luck, but surprisingly i put this on and it fit so well on the smallest setting.
He wears it 3 times a day, and there has been no signs of discomfort, the padding seems to work well for this.
I can't recommend this enough. I can tell it's going to last a long time too, it's very sturdy.
Thank you!

We are so pleased this is a good fit. Yes, sometimes it is a good idea to go up a size especially if your dog is deep in the chest or an awkward size. The Truelove harnesses do last really well so I am sure it will give you many pleasurable walks. Best wishes. Sammi
