Keeping warm

Keep Warm!
When temperatures drop and the weather turns cold, wet, and dark, it’s the perfect time to wrap up warm and cosy. Staying warm is important both indoors and when heading out for exercise. Many dogs really benefit from wearing a jumper or coat on walks, and all dogs need a warm, comfortable place to sleep at home.
Every dog should have a quiet place to rest—a safe, warm space away from the hustle and bustle of family life. This helps reduce stress and allows them to catch up on sleep between fun activities. A snug resting spot is especially important for older or more nervous dogs during the colder months.
You can make sleeping areas extra cosy with soft blankets or heat mats. Make sure the space is away from draughts and not too close to noisy areas of the house, such as the television or the busiest rooms.
When the weather is wet, wet, wet and everything feels damp and grey, those doggy walks still have to happen! Keeping your pup cosy and dry in a fleece or waterproof raincoat will help them stay warm and make walks much more enjoyable.
When choosing a raincoat for your dog, look for one that is:
-
Fully waterproof
-
Designed with a wrap-around chest to keep tummies warm and dry
-
Ideally lined with snug fleece to keep the winter chill out
Rainy days don’t have to mean soggy fur and shivery walks—your dog will thank you!
Another important thing to consider is protecting those doggy paws. Cold, damp conditions in autumn and winter can cause dryness, cracking, and irritation. Prolonged wetness or ice buildup can even increase the risk of infection.
You can help protect your dog’s paws by:
-
Using dog booties
-
Thoroughly cleaning and drying paws after walks
-
Applying a dog-friendly paw balm
A little extra care goes a long way in keeping your pup comfy, warm, safe, and happy all season long 🐾
